Welcome to Skiffer

Your secure space for online meetings

Skiffer is a video conferencing solution for secure online meetings. The service is provided by Tutus, and all infrastructure is located in Sweden, in security-approved facilities administered by security-cleared personnel. Skiffer offers authenticated meetings using all approved Swedish eIDs, as well as those covered by the European eIDAS Regulation.

To book meetings with Skiffer, you need a moderator account. If you do not have one, contact us at sales@tutus.se or sign up here. Once you have a moderator account and have received a licence number, you need to register. Make sure you have your eID to hand. By registering, you accept the terms of use for the service.

If you are unable to use an approved eID, you can instead set up a moderator account limited to creating unauthenticated meetings. You can then register using a Google account or a FIDO2 token (a YubiKey, for example).

User guide

Skiffer requires no special software on your computer and works directly in the Chrome and Edge browsers.

Setting up a Skiffer conference takes three simple steps:

  • Book a conference

  • Invite participants

  • Join the conference

How to get started:

1. Boka en konferens

  • In your browser, go to the Skiffer booking page: skiffer.tutus.se. The booking page is available in Swedish and English. Enter a name for the conference.
  • Tick the Authenticated video conference box if you want to require an eID to join.
  • Enter the date, time and duration of the conference.
  • Note that a conference can run for longer than the time set here.
  • Tick the Recurring conference box if the conference repeats.
  • Enter a description for the conference (optional).
  • Click Book.

2. Invite participants

Once you have booked a conference, you can invite people to it in several ways. The Your bookings tab offers a number of options.

  • Add to calendar – downloads a calendar booking (.ics file) that you can import into your calendar and then use to invite participants.
  • Email invitation – opens your email client with a ready-made invitation and the meeting link, which you can send to participants.
  • Copy link – copies the meeting link to the clipboard so you can paste it into any application and forward it to participants.
  • Share – lets you share the link to another application on a mobile or tablet.

Remember that the meeting link (https://skiffra.se/xxxxx) contains the key needed to join a conference. It should therefore be treated as confidential and shared only with those expected to attend. You can also use a password.

Note that the Your bookings and Recently visited conferences tabs rely on cookies in order to work. If you change computer or browser, clear your cookies or use your browser's incognito mode, you may no longer see your booked conferences. We therefore recommend always including yourself when you invite people to a conference, so that you as moderator still have the link to hand when the conference is due to start.

3. Join the conference

Moderators

As a moderator, the easiest way to join a booked conference is to click the conference name in the Your bookings tab. You can join the conference at any time. It can be useful to join a little before it starts, so that you can check your microphone and camera and configure the settings you want before the other participants are admitted. As a moderator, your first and last name and your authentication method are shown to the other participants.

Note that Skiffer does not save any information or settings for conferences with no active participants. If you want to configure settings, you need to stay in the conference until it starts.

Participants

Invited participants join by clicking the invitation link they have received, or by entering it directly in their browser. Participants who try to join before the scheduled start time are placed in a waiting room that counts down to the start of the conference. When the time comes, they are automatically admitted. In an authenticated conference, each participant's first and last name and the eID they used are shown to the other participants, for example Stig Nilsson (BankID). In unauthenticated conferences, participants choose how they are presented.

4. Microphone or camera problems

If you are having problems with your microphone or camera, you may need to clear cookies in your browser.

In Google Chrome

  • Copy the whole address below and paste it into the Chrome address bar: chrome://settings/content/siteDetails?site=https%3A%2F%2Fmeet5.tutus.se
  • Clear the following entries if they are present:
    • meet4tutus
    • meet5tutus
  • Paste the address into the address bar again and check that everything has been cleared.

In Microsoft Edge

  • Copy and paste the following address into the Edge address bar: edge://settings/privacy/cookies/AllCookies
  • Search for and clear the following entries:
    • meet4tutus
    • meet5tutus

Once these have been removed, try joining the conference again.

Skiffer features

Skiffer has a menu with buttons for the various features.

  • Microphone – Click the microphone icon to turn your microphone on or off. Click the ^ icon to choose your microphone and speakers.
  • Camera – Click the camera icon to turn your camera on or off. Click the ^ icon to choose your camera.
  • Screen sharing – Click the icon to choose what to share: your whole screen, a tab or a single window. Click the icon again to stop sharing.
  • Chat – Participants can use the chat to send messages. You can also send a private message directly to an individual participant by clicking their window and selecting Private message.
  • Polls – The chat also has a tab for creating polls.
  • Raise hand – Click the hand icon to get attention during the meeting, for example.
  • Grid view – Click the window icon to switch between a view showing all participants (grid view) and a view that focuses on whoever is speaking.
  • Personal settings – Click the circle with your initials to change your personal settings. Note that if you change your name, the change will not be visible to other participants.
  • Meeting settings – Click the three dots for further meeting settings. Here you can choose a virtual background, set a meeting password and, if you are a moderator, enable the lobby.

Waiting room

The waiting room is a feature that requires the moderator to admit each participant before they can enter the meeting. A moderator who wants to enable it needs to join the meeting before the scheduled start time and turn it on by clicking the three dots → Security options → Enable waiting room. The moderator must also stay in the meeting until it starts, as the setting will otherwise not remain active.

Password

As a moderator, you can protect a meeting further with a password. The password should be sent through a different channel from the invitation link. The moderator chooses the password and needs to set it in the meeting settings (three dots → Security options → Add password) before the scheduled start time. A password can also prevent participants who have been removed from rejoining. Note that if you enable both a password and a waiting room, participants who know the password can join without being admitted by the moderator.

Removing participants

A moderator can remove participants who for any reason should not remain in the meeting. Click the menu in that participant's window (the three vertical dots) and select Disconnect. To prevent the participant from rejoining, the moderator can set a new password before removing them.

Q/A

For the service to function properly, the following ports must be open from your browser or mobile device to 80.72.3.160/27: TCP ports 443 and 5349, and UDP ports 10000 and 3478. Please contact your IT administrator or IT department for assistance with this.

If TLS Intercept / SSL Inspection is used, an exception must be made for 80.72.3.160/27. Hostname: turn2.skiffer.tutus.se.

Currently, there is a technical limit of 100 participants per individual conference.

With end-to-end encryption enabled, the maximum is 20 participants per individual conference.

No, these browsers lack required features and may also negatively affect the user experience for other participants.

This is because the client only retrieves video feeds from the most recently active participants in order to reduce the load on both the client and the network.

To prevent PowerPoint from running in full-screen mode, go to Slide Show → Set Up Slide Show and select Browsed by an individual (window).

Then, share your PowerPoint window in Skiffer (not your entire screen). This way, you can run the presentation without it taking over all other windows on your desktop.
