Tutus is a privately owned Swedish company, founded in 1992. For over 30 years we have developed encryption solutions for the military, government agencies and organisations with stringent requirements for secure communications. Our vision is a world where essential societal functions can manage their information and communications securely and efficiently.
What Tutus offers
We develop and supply approved encryption products for secure communications, intended for information up to and including the security classification level RESTRICTED. Our customers conduct security-sensitive activities, operate critical infrastructure or fulfil other essential societal functions.

A part of CR Group
Tutus is part of CR Group, a European group bringing together leading technology companies in secure communications and cyber security. The group operates in several European markets with the aim of strengthening Europe's ability to protect essential societal functions and building a more sovereign and resilient Europe.
CR Group was founded in 2022 and was initially built around the acquisition of Tutus in 2023. Since then the group has grown through the acquisition of the Dutch security company Sentyron. Together, the companies strengthen CR Group's ability to develop and deliver secure communications solutions for defence, government agencies and critical infrastructure in the European market.

Tutus history
The year is 1992. The internet and the connected society are beginning to emerge. Email, web technology, laptops and mobile communications are still in their infancy, but things are moving fast. This is the start of a sweeping technological transformation, and of a growing need to protect information in an increasingly connected world.

The world's first smartphone?
The IBM Simon had a touchscreen, calculator, notepad and email, and could connect to a network. It is regarded as the first mobile computer in the form of a phone.
The Michelangelo virus
One of the first computer viruses to attract global attention is triggered on 6 March 1992.
The world's first text message
The message "Merry Christmas" is sent on 3 December. In 2021 it was sold as an NFT for €132,680.
The phrase "surfing the Internet" is coined
By the librarian Jean Armour Polly, in an article in the Wilson Library Bulletin.
MIME makes it possible to attach files to email
Images, audio files and video, as well as characters beyond ASCII. At the same time, CompuServe makes it possible for anyone to format email without knowing how to code.
Tutus takes shape
Around this time, Per Holmer, a 25-year-old engineering student, is recruited as a security consultant for the Swedish Naval Staff. Similar assignments for FMV, the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration, soon follow. It is the start of what eventually becomes today's Tutus.

The Tutus concept of starting from a standardised open-source system and layering encryption on top becomes the cornerstone of how we approach cyber security and agile technology development. Making standard systems secure, rather than building proprietary secure systems that then have to be adapted to standards to become compatible.
When the Restricted information security classification is introduced in Sweden in the late 1990s, there is no approved encryption at that level. This becomes the next major task for Tutus, and cryptographic solutions for Restricted become the company's core expertise.
